Gudmundur Sigurdsson (Iceland)


History in Color:

Gudmundur Sigurdsson (b. 1948) is one of the finest athletes that represented Iceland on the international arena in Olympic weightlifing.

He was  a 2x Olympian of Iceland. Sigurdsson represented his country at the Summer Olympics in Munich (1972, 13th place) and Montreal (1976, 8th place). Both times he lifted in the mid heavyweight class.

Gudmundur Sigurdsson also competed 4x at the European Championships (1972, 1974, 1976 and 1980) and at the the World Championships in 1974 and 1979. He also won gold medals at 5 Nordic Games (1967, 1977, 1979, 1989, 1999).
