June 23, 1968, Leningrad, Russia – Soviet light heavyweight Boris Selitsky of Leningrad, Russia prepares for the lift in the 82.5kg class at the 1968 European Championships in Leningrad.

29-year old rookie of Team USSR, Boris Selitsky won the European title that night with a 472.5kg (157.5+140+175) total. It was the first tournament of such elite caliber for Selitsky and it was held in his hometown – in Leningrad.

Four month later, Boris Selitsky became an Olympic champion in Mexico City.

Very far away from his home.
