June 16, 1978, Havirov, Czechoslovakia – 21-year old sub heavyweight Sergey Arakelov of Krasnodar, Russia makes his debut appearance on elite level for Team USSR in the 100kg at the 1978 European Championships in Havirov. Arakelov won a gold European medal with a 387.5kg (177.5+210) total and a world record in snatch (178kg).
