Team USA Departs For the World Championships In Stockholm

August 1953, NYC, NY, USA – The U.S. weightlifting team is about to embark from New York to the 1953 World championships in Stockholm via Scandinavian Airlines (left to right):


John Davis (90+kg, silver medal), Norbert Schemansky (90kg, gold medal), Mrs. Stan Stanczyk, Peter George (67.5kg, gold medal), Bob Hoffman (coach), Dave Sheppard (75kg, silver medal), Tommy Kono (75kg, gold medal), Stan Stanczyk (82.5kg, bronze medal), Clarence Johnson (manager) and John Terpak who drove up from York, PA to see the lifters off.


Notes:

Information after the athletes’ name includes their weight class  and place they took at the 1953 World championships in Stockholm. Jim Bradforn is missing from the photo.
