Medal Ceremony in Rostov (1971)

March13, 1971, Rostov, Russia – The strongest middle heavyweights of the 1971 Friendship Cup in Rostov-on-Don receive their medals in the 90+kg class competition in Rostov (left to right):

Jean-Pierre Van Lerberghe (Belgium, 3rd place), David Rigert (USSR, 1st place),  Geza Toth (Hungary, 2nd place)

At the tournament, 23-year old Rigert managed to set world records in clean-and-jerk (203kg) and in total (542.5kg). Those were the 2nd and 3rd world records in his career. Overall, David Rigert mastered 65 world records in his career.
