  • John Davis, 2x Olympian, Olympic champion in London (1948) and Helsinki (1952)

  • Tommy Kono, 3x Olympian, Olympic champion in Helsinki (1952) and Melbourne (1956),

    Olympic silver medalist (1960), 6x World champion (1953-1955, 1957-1959), 3x Pan American Games champion (1955, 1959, 1953), 23 world records


By many accounts, the three weightlifting legends on this History in Color cover photo can be considered the all-time best athletes that ever competed for the United States in Olympic weightlifting.
